Weekend Picture Update

We hit our groove this week, getting into the spirit of an extended vacation and getting the lay of the land.  Alex drives down the country lanes without getting lost (much) and I've become at home in the kitchen.

This week I cooked a vegan lasagna with plenty of leftover vegan ricotta, miso eggplant, and killer salads.  Aiven's culinary horizons are also growing, mostly because he demands to eat whatever daddy is munching on.  It seems that Aiven inherited daddy's love of hummus, and they devoured a tub of it together.

It rained for most of the week, which was just fine by us.  Alex finished reading two books, I got to paint, and Aiven watched a lot of Baby Signing Time.  When we did go out, we got stuck behind a herd of cows and saw someone herding a horse with their car. Alex has to dodge tractors, dogs, and birds that dart out of the hedges.  He also narrowly missed a hedge hog that was munching on our compost detritus.

We've had an infestation of flying bugs in the house.  They don't bite or buzz around us, but they have a pesky habit of dying near my computer desk.  Alex tries to save them by carrying them outside, but they keep dropping like flies.

That's all for this week!

Casual Obervations

1. I will very rarely (if ever) leave the house with clean clothes. I finally put on something new yesterday, nothing particularly fancy, and just as we were leaving, Aiven schmeared his bread-battered little hands all over me. I burst into tears while laughing hysterically. My husband was aghast.

2. One of the coolest things Aiven has done is learn to suck down organic food pouches on his own. We discovered this a few days ago when we stripped him, placed him on the terrace with a pouch, and prepared for a hose down. Instead, he sucked down the whole pouch without making any mess in 30 seconds. Now he's down to 15 seconds.

Shalom Y'all

One of the many reasons I love Kveller is the community it creates. Whether it is offering words of support for a miscarriage, giving suggestions on how to do deal with a child’s problem, or just laughing together, Kveller has really become a great place to share.

It has also been a great place to make new connections. Let me explain…

Processing...it's a difficult process

Day 2 in Ireland:

I have been fighting tears for several days now. On the verge, feeling them well up, and swallowing them back down. But there has been no time to cry. I have a nine-month-old who is teething and had a tough time with our journey to Ireland in the last 24 hours. I have a baby developing in my belly who is starting to make me nauseous every day. And I have a husband who was more ready than I to leave to New York and could not share in my melancholy.
