Bit & Pieces

These are bits and pieces from when I was pregnant and from being a new mom.
  • When I was pregnant, I did not take prenatal vitamins.  I think they are a joke.  The supplement companies repackage basic multi-vitamins and market them at a ridiculous price.  All you need is a daily multi-vitamin and some folic acid.  You can get these at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or your corner drugstore and save yourself some money.  Just my opinion.
  • I took folic acid BEFORE I got pregnant.  It is very important for the early development of the fetus and you don't want to find out you were deficient in folic acid when you discover you are pregnant at around 5 or 6 weeks.  Actually, if you are not using birth control, take folic acid daily - just in case.

Aiven + Aden + Anais

Yesterday,  I met Raegan Moya-Jones, the Co-Founder and CEO of Aden + Anais, at an event held at Albee Baby on the Upper Westside. I am a huge fan of Aden + Anais products and I felt like I was meeting a celebrity.  She was so sweet and approachable, and best of all, she taught me a new way to swaddle!

Quitting My Job, Leaving New York & Taking Our Kid Across Europe… Before We Die

I think that when you become a parent you discover an entire new set of fears.  It can include, but is not limited to: germs, food additives, antibiotics, vaccines…<insert fear-of-the-month here>.  My husband and I, well, we are afraid of dying.  Not the fear of slowly wasting away in a nursing home, but of dying young, soon, perhaps tomorrow.  Alex’s mother died without warning when he was seven years old and my father died when I was four.  This shared experience bonded us together from the night we met.

Vegan Daddy

My husband Alex is a vegan. I am not–though I keep kosher. Whenever we used to talk about what to feed our son Aiven we both came away feeling frustrated and empty-handed. I wanted to introduce Aiven to all types of food and let him make the decision for himself as to what foods to exclude. But Alex had valid points as to why we should not introduce certain foods into his diet. To make matters worse, we kept discussing it over and over and over again.

Things That Go Bump In The Night

It amazes me what will and will not wake Aiven up.  It is a constant challenge figuring it out as well because the list keeps evolving as he he does.  As it stands right now, here is the list.
