Aiven Doesn't Like to Sleep

2 minutes naps - he gets energized!  Awake all night - that's ok - he is ready to party in the morning!  He gets tired and I try nursing him to sleep - it's like giving him rocket fuel!

He was hungry, so, as we should, we tried to feed him.  This is what happened:

The Stroller Story

Stroller culture in New York City fascinates me. Strollers here are like cars in LA. More than just a way to provide transportation from A to B, they're a fashion statement and a status symbol. And because we walk everywhere instead of driving, it needs to have great handling, excellent storage space and look fabulous. With the abundance of multiple births now, the stroller duos have become a big market. The variety and clever designs really impress me, as do the price tags. It almost makes me want to have twins just to get one of those cool rides.

But alas, right now I only have one little sweet potato. And of course, with my high standards, I had lots of issues finding the right stroller. I wanted something that would be great for long walks. Specifically, I wanted a smooth ride for the baby on the pockmarked streets of New York. But it seems like any stroller with great suspension is not easy to collapse, put in the trunk of a car, or travel with. If only MTV would pimp my stroller...

Family Law

Alex and I had a dilemma when it came to Aiven's bris.  Who to invite?  Traditionally, invitations are not sent out for the bris ceremony.  An announcement is made and anyone who walks in through the door is welcome.  But our family is anything but traditional.

The dilemma is that there is bad blood in the family.  Or just bad apples, depending on your point of view.  Some rivalries are mutual and some are one-sided, but they are all tragic and petty.  It's not a question of clever seating arrangements, it's a question of whether allowing these troublemakers into our home would ignite World War 3.

The Bjorn Identity

I think I may have finally solved the baby carrier conundrum.  What I really wanted was a BabyBjorn and an Ergo Baby combined into one carrier (Tastes great!  Less filling!) so I could carry Aiven facing outward or inward.  I also needed something that would work for a few months longer as Aiven continues to grow taller and gain weight.

Enter the Lilliebaby Carrier.  I bought the sport edition since it is made of a breathable mesh that ought to be the cooler, wiser choice for summerIt’s also more compact and easier to travel with.  Alex and I have both tried it out and give it four thumbs up!  Amazingly, Alex took Aiven on a very long walk and came home without kvetching about a backache.  But more importantly, Aiven loves his front-row seat to the greatest show on earth – New York City.

I am still going to use the Ergo.  It is
easier to wear when sitting down and it is warmer for cool evenings.

I am now the proud owner of 5 baby carriers (well, actually, 4.  I sold one on eBay).

Prodigy Progeny

A post by my husband

I had always wanted a precocious child. I dreamed not only of discussing complex subjects with my son, but learning from him as well. I just didn't expect to learn something complex from him so soon.

Aiven loves to stare at bright, shiny objects, steal them away, and put them in his mouth. Much like a crow. And like a crow from one of Aesop's Fables, the only way to get a bright, shiny object out of his mouth is to tempt him with another one. This weekend, Aiven fixated on my Macbook. I don't mind when he gets his grubby little fingers on my iPhone, Blackberry, or keys, but this is one bright, shiny object that is off limits. My lovely wife suggested that I play the old switcheroo with my work laptop, so while I cleverly distracted Aiven with farm animals sounds I swapped out my work laptop for the Macbook.
