He tends to eat heartily all day, not only his own food (organic pouches) but whatever we are eating as well: miso eggplant, pasta, stir fry, bread, etc. But at night, he eats like Midwesterners at a Las Vegas buffet. It boggles his parents' minds, confounds their budget, and embarrasses them in front of babysitters who suspect that they are starving their child.
For instance, last night he ate four pouches of organic baby food (about 4 oz. each for a total of approximately 16 ounces...aka ONE POUND OF FOOD). He also had half a bag of mini organic rice cakes, seven organic apple cookies, and a bunch of organic puffs.
One pound of food went in. Did a pound come out? According to my husband's meticulous poop diary, not even close. It's a poopy paradox.
Today we went to Dunnes, a local grocery store, because we were almost out of the 100+ pouches I shipped to Ireland. Luckily, Ella's Kitchen is here in a variety of flavors. We bought 51 pouches today. It may last us a week. Wish us luck.
Might I suggest making your own? Steam sweet potatoes, white potatoes, peas, etc. and mash them and then freeze in ice cube trays. Defrost as needed (often). LOL! He's adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteActually, I was making quite a bit of his food until we got to Ireland. There is not a great selection of vegetables here :(
I did the ice cube trays when we started him on solids. Within 2 weeks, I could not make enough to keep up. One tray of defrosted ice cube was barely a meal for him and our NY freezer was so small! He seriously eats a crazy amount of food. So, he eats what I cook for my husband and I (mostly vegan) and we supplement with the pouches. Which are also great when we are away from the house doing day trips and the like.
